Do You Want A Climbing Stick Or A Pair

The decision to use a single stick or a double stick for climbing ultimately depends on individual preferences and requirements. However, the crucial factor is having proper knowledge and understanding of how to utilize the chosen stick effectively.

When venturing outdoors for climbing, many individuals prefer not to carry heavy loads, leading them to believe that taking only one climbing stick is sufficient. However, the most authentic and standard practice is to utilize a pair of climbing sticks. With a single stick, users have the flexibility to lean towards one side for support, but it may not evenly distribute the weight. On the other hand, employing two climbing sticks reduces the strain exerted on the feet. Nevertheless, beginners may find it easy to trip when initially using two sticks and thus should engage in more practice. Furthermore, it is important to recognize that not every terrain is suitable for climbing sticks, particularly while traversing valleys.

To navigate through a complex gully environment, it's best to rely less on climbing sticks and instead use both hands to balance yourself. This is because the terrain is filled with large and uneven stones that are best climbed using your hands, rather than the sticks. At times, you might also encounter big gaps that require you to jump to cross. However, climbing sticks can be useful for other types of terrain and pathways, just not in valleys and rugged terrains where they may not offer the necessary support.
